The provincial authorities of Drenthe are exploring whether a connection can be made using a self-driving vehicle between the airport terminal, parking facilities, the RLS1957, the business park, and the public transport hub at De Punt, which is being laid our near the A28 motorway.
In Bourtange, we are planning to transport visitors, school children, and possibly also packages from the parking lots outside the fortified town to the centre of the fortress, through to the parking lot on the other side. If possible, we will also drive on to the elementary school just outside the fortress.
Ommelander Hospital in Scheemda
At the new Ommelander Hospital in Scheemda, a self-driving vehicle is going to drive between the main entrance of the hospital and the nearest bus stop (approx. 1.5 km). The test will continue for at least six months. If the test is successful, the minibus is expected to play a permanent part in making the hospital accessible by public transport.
Loppersum and Zernike
In the autumn of 2017, a test was done in the village of Loppersum with the autonomous vehicle of EasyMile and 5G. In 2018, practical tests using remote control will follow.
At Eemshaven, self-driving mini-buses from various suppliers are tested at a closed-off testing track. The tests include the use of object recognition and driving under varying weather conditions.
